Media Moments: Question, reflect, connect

The Point

What was the point?
Cute lambs and shepherds
twinkling stars,
Presents and smiles,
straw and happy baby,
Smiling parents.
Underneath...
A king desperate for power
Fear of a baby
death of innocents
Fleeing parents,
A Christmas beginning.

Today,
Families gathering
presents exchanged
Hugs and togetherness
Celebration,
Underneath...
Crowded rushed malls
Sweating Santa,
Myriad sales
Glitter commercials,
Stress and loneliness
Clarity of pain and anger,
Countries war-torn
Worn and lost.

Underneath...
Anchored in and beyond time
God's love...
Sent in risk
Sent to bring back,
Sent to speak,
To live full; laugh, struggle,
To go carrying the cross
Carrying our pain, sin, death
For the joy
set before him,
Darkness and sameness
Triumph of evil.

Underneath... The Point

Resurrection power
Death and sin defeated,
Love conquered
Final victory,
Reborn again
Lives eternally changed.

Christmas complete.

Moon

Inside
steel girders
Comfortable chairs
Walls safe
Thick concrete
Reinforcing a sameness,
Step to a window
Press nose to cold
See the night,
Moonlight reflections
Of the Son
Lift my soul,
One rock
That spins in space
Crying out,
Dark in itself,
Catching the light
Reverberates
Life of the universe.
Moon Christian Poem

Soul Window

Beginning
Snow white we were,
Innocent,
Free.

Beginning déjà vu
the poisoned Apple,
One small moment
In time,
A decision,
Earth's history changes,
Death increases,
Pain intensifies.
The very stones,
Core of earth
wait and groan.

Timeless
Another door opens
Alternate reality,
Hope
Is gifted, birthed, lives, laughs,
Walks with, learns with,
Shows a love
Immense, Free
Giving choice,
Promise in life's lacerations
Hope for dispossessed
Complete forgiveness.
Beautiful.

Jesus
our soul's window
to God's heart,

Open
to the kiss
of the prince.

Faith

Faith
Embraces the wanderer,
Seekers and lost
Pained and released.
No dress code
No restrictions.

This world's
Needs, desires,
wants,
Are shadow trades
for this unaccountable
Amazing unknown.

Get up and walk
Walk to his cross
Walk to his arms
Faith
Walk to his light
Walk to his hope
Faith.
Your steps, his steps
Your path, following his destiny.

He knows your doubts
Questions,
Jesus has been before
Lived your dark before
Seen you before.

Take your dreams,
Hopes, laughter,

Live life in God.
Have faith.

A Breath

It is a breath
Moments of life
Heart flickers.

Thoughts in time
suspended in
circles of praise,
Worship
of God
Before time
Alpha
The End
Omega.

Worship
changes the soul
challenges
Holy Spirit whispers
centering towards Jesus
Who is he?

Where do you stand
kneel, hang
before his cross?

Where do you hide?
Retreat, ignore, block,
threaten, plead
before his resurrection?

How will you respond
to his love,
call, questions?

You Called

You called, "Come."
I left what I knew
Embraced unknown reality,

You spoke, "Awake."
I opened darkened eyes
from spiritual lack.

You cried, "Father forgive them,"
I engraved these love words
Mind to heart.

You said before dawn
the cock will crow,
“Three times"
I know now
boasts mean little,
Cheap betrayal,
Yet threaded, intertwined,
three times you asked,
"Do you love me?"
"I do."
Twice; "You know I do."
Third time, soul deeper,
life aware, pride cut,
"Lord, I do."

You announced, "Let there be light"
And I danced
in a new beginning.
You called - Respond to God

Words

The play of words
game of words
throne of words…

Hate fester words
Back stab gossip
War engraving text
Love declarations
Advertising mind twists
Thoughtless remarks
Timeless quotes
Idle chitchat
Blog comments
Humour mind remarks
Music laced words.

Our world...
Stick and stones
Life and death
through words.

Who said in power,
"in the beginning.. Was the Word!”
Who said, "I am the Word,
the Truth and the Life!”
Who said
nailed and struggling for breath,
"Today, you will be with me
in Paradise!"

God to Earth

Was the plan
to be incognito?
Only a few to know
of the baby
Heaven's anticipated arrival,
Born in a manger
Earth of earth smells.

But maybe the angels
Communicating at the speed of light
knowing the power
felt God's word at work,
"Shall we see what's going on?"
and followed the messenger angel,
from heaven's dimension.

And above night shrouded hills
they heard the words
spoken to amazed shepherds
"And you will find a baby.."
The Angel xfactors
couldn't contain worship
Bursting into human sight,
Unsuppressed singing surged
cosmic deep
sheer Joy ,
"Glory to God, peace on Earth"

Did God laugh and shake His head,
Those angels
couldn't keep anything quiet,
So much for the
laid-back birth plan,
No hushed start for God's
human shaped love.

God smiled,
“Shh… angels, don’t
wake the baby!”
The winged choir returned
sheepish.

Starting Thoughts: It hit me in a service - I wonder how the angels got to to be there and sing when they appeared to the shepherds? Do angels have agency apart from God ?- I think yes!
Birth of Jesus Christmas Poem

Christmas

Santa in last years white beard smells
Coloured lights hang
Twinkles and patterns of
Community art,
Mall packed shopping
Endless Snoopy melodies,
Behind the retail assistant smiles
voids and hopes,
A time of year
emotions under the microscope,
Extremes magnified,
Hope and loss
gathered friends, holes of loneliness
Life and death
Stuffed stretched stomach,
credit card strangle.

And we live this commercial crazy time,
In the trapped moments,
Yet hoping for freedom fun released,

We are
Part of eternities entwined story
A birth, a baby, an adult, a forever love,
a God's plan.

Christmas Poetry Video

Indestructable

My life has a dream,
snatches seen through grime.
hope's beginning
given love complete
helpless born
healing, challenging, friend
dark death cross
times claw suspended,
leapt to life,
defeated sin,
immortal payment
for you.

Jesus Indestructible
Lord,
power forever,
He holds
final key
eternities pathway
hope complete.

Justice

Killed in a moments
inaction,
slow response to hurt inflicted.
the bully unchallenged
the weak who we pass by
the laughter of gossip...
Lighten up, get a life,
does it really make a difference?
If tomorrow you were...
Afghan... 3 year old gang- raped
in a country where women fear the daily road
OR Chinese grandmother beaten,
taken away “re-educated”
for applying for a legitimate protest card…

Do you not know what you have?
How precious justice is?
In your country, based on Christian history
A sense of justice strong.

So don’t ignore,
turn your back on the wrong
Hear the voice of the Spirit
The challenge of taking the cross
Respond to God’s love
Reach out, take action

Not frozen in the challenge’s headlights
But a hedgehog with tyre deflating prickles!

The Passion

The passion
One week
in history,
Time shortens itself
Focuses
on life
Living hope,
Death
Living hope,
Celebration
Living hope,
Struggles
Living hope,
Just seven days
changing
four seasons in one week,
Ending with
Life Power over death,
Fears of worst death
shattered with Pure light,
Death destroyed by invincible
courageous love.

Easter
One week in history
A thousand years collapsed to a day,
One week holding
eternal futures for you.

Easter the fiesta!
Christ's freedom.

The Answer

The Answer
Grew with us
Deepened his heart
In the midst of humans,
Laughed
Skinned knees
Encountered friends, bullies
Soul-mates, misunderstandings
Compassion entwined
Its roots in his soul
So deep
His fate sealed
In His love,
Carried Him
To the cross
To hang
World’s reality,
To stand
through time
In the gap
Death to life.
Dark to celebration.

Uncomplete Dark

Complete Dark
total Blackness
Surrounds
suffocating my future,
Tangled invisible roots
leaden into my soul
Causing rips in hope,
And I've known
God,
Known
passion and power,
times and places
of life fullness,

Did Jesus know all this?

Birth in a manger
Bringing death on the
streets of Ramah,
Did he know as he grew up?
Was there guilt?

Sly cutting remarks
about his birth, family
other children teasing
his beginnings.
Was there doubt?

Life of a carpenter
cuts, bruising
annoying customers
thinking, Am I in the right place?
When will God use me?
Will I be ready?
Moments of Vision
in the temple
Challenging religion,
displacing prejudice,
When will God use me?
I will get ready!

Baptism, wild man in a river
the heavens open
Jesus hears the father’s voice
a sense of release
a passion calling,
Am I "I Am?"

Calling out the authorities
religious zealots
Loss of friends, betrayal,
Hard words from silk tongues
Did he stand numb
Questioning, what is the point?
Did he know the dark?

Yes!
Buried, drowned,
beaten, crushed,
in death’s valley
he was there, knows there,
willingly there,
He knew the dark…
Did He ask where is God?

Then He simply rose
an incredible power
directly exercised
walking from tomb's extinction
through life’s chains
through death’s sting
through racism and religion
through sin, fear and loneliness,

Simply continuing His love;
cherishing Mary in garden chat -
gardener becomes the saviour
in Her eyes,
walking dusty roads
with two conversing -
until they finally recognise Him,
Twice appearing
miraculous materialisation to the disciples
inviting cold reality - “Put your hand in my side, Thomas”
Restoring the fallen
as they first fish, then miraculously fish
and breakfast on Galilee shore,
then and today Jesus asks,
“Do you love me?”

“Feed my Lambs!"

Starting Thoughts: What were the questions that Jesus faced? How did they change through His life? Were they the same questions we ask?

The Questions we face and Ask - Did Jesus ask these? Spoken Word Poem

Perfectly Planned

Perfectly planned
In time's span,
The arrival.

A baby
To fulfill prophecy,
A light -
Star signs and creator's spark
A man
entwined with Universe power

In a time where Jewish
Religion was official,
A murder -
Killed and resurrected
A power alive -
When roads had been built
By a Roman kingdom
To carry the revolutionary news
Of Kingdom life.

Not of might
Of love,
Not of weapon
Of forgiveness,
Not of anger
Of patience,
Not of death
Of everlasting life.

Time planned
Eternal breath
All hopes arrival.

Line in the Sand

Dust crusted finger
becomes a pointed instrument
of decision
In the dirt of time
the hand
draws the line,
the words
simple and straight
To those watching
the line is a valley
slashing its cleft
giant scars in timelines
the words sear to
the heart,
drawn with slow
heart beat jumps.
Step forward or backward?
Accuse or acknowledge self?

Christian Spoken Word Poem on Easter and Cross from Soldier

Window

I sat staring
to the blackened sky,
Window framed
dark silhouette hills,
Out of touch
safe behind glass.

Bluebells and cornfields grew
shattering the bondage,
dark forces splintered
in confused chorus chaos
and sunlight strength
warmed day colours alive.

I no longer
wanted to be safe,
instead a desire
to rush out
hug the sunrise
kiss the golden touch,
Enjoy God's daily miracles.

Doors

Doors are simple things
push, or pull
how many times
do I pull
instead of push?
they open
you step through.
A different world
on the other side,
Thresholds of new
but fear makes doors complex;
locks, smart card swipes
to keep the world shut out.

In the black wandering
of my life
suddenly
I found myself wondering
in front of a darkened door,
Why had it appeared here
suspended in today’s
moments midst,
light cracking through
its outside edges,

Unexpectedly
a knock from the other side,
I thought
nothing was there
nothing beyond this life,
but someone
is waiting, standing
sending rhythm beats to my heartbeats.

In confusion anger
I reacted, “Go away”
"You have no right
to be here”,
“you don’t exist!"
I closed my eyes
and tried to think
of something real,

the knock sounded again fainter…thinner
unreal.
