In Charge of the World

If I were in charge of the world
fitness would be eating ice cream
guns would melt away
and global warming would be global just right.

If I were in charge of the world
old age would mean thirty year old bodies
young age would have more common sense
and middle age would eat more ice cream.

If I were in charge of the world
politicians would turn green if they lie
everyone would stop to enjoy beautiful moments
and digital devices would stop when overused.

If I were in charge of the world
Almond chocolate would be a fruit
A hug would last for twenty seconds
And a person who sometimes left the toilet seat up
Who liked to bike and spend time with his grandson
Who sometimes buys too many gadgets
Would still be in charge of the world.

Starting Thoughts: How would us being in charge of the world make it a different and better place? Can you place some humour into this form of poetry as well? What will make your version of this poem unique?

Robotic Mountains

Starting with
a step towards the mountain
footfalls of moments
ideas and design
listening and redesigning,
a plan emerged
for our robot code,
building and rebuilding
coding and testing
and recoding,
we climbed the rocky
face of robot soccer.

Competition clambered ahead
passing us on
belays and pinions
points and strategies
and we stood second
on the first peak.
Mount "Canterbury Regionals"
So, we planned to ascend again.

New energy, new ideas
hard decisions,
hundreds hours of practice,
muscles, minds and hearts
leadership
stretched again and again,
equipment changed
hardware, software prepared
ready for the new challenge;
New Zealand RoboCup.

Breathing thinned
in the expectant
finals atmosphere,
we took the last step
points in balance
hearts beating
sweat cooling our brows
and approached
the peak of our
achievement
always thinking
mindset strategies to beat
the last climbing competitors.

Tension high
heights of achievement
we trooped,
team member
after team member
up the final steps
Finally,
we stood tall
Kings of the
N.Z. Robotic Soccer mountain.

Manna

Christ commands and
holds all authority
on Earth, in the universe,
Nothing can stop His love.
And in the mind and soul whispers
myriad reflections
and changes created
from His heart,
Every day
my spirit unfolds,
greater things
will happen
for I am deemed worthy
by the God of life,
my faith journey
His desire,
There will be
No scarcity from God
in the now,
Every morning
The fresh and new
Zest from heaven,
Just for this day,
In time
For this time,
And I open
Ready to receive
Open to adventure
New destiny
New divine appointments.

In this moment
I take the bread
I see the harvest

Go and gather
Go and take,
Emanuel, God with us,
says the word.
The intimate Lord.

Broken Chains

Sin in the light
exposed,
why do I try
to keep hidden
these chains
that Jesus seeks to break,
why do I want to
feel the same shame
as it grabs me again
Do I like this pain?
Do I revel in the blame?
Retreat to the same?

The kingdom of dark
Baited with a sense
of choice,
Freedom to be ourselves
Expressing individuality
Lured into sharp hooks
hiding from overlooks
living life by our guidebooks
striving for good people looks
living inside the jokebooks.

Only from outside
a bridge through time and space
Can extreme love
True light
make the sacrifice for sin,
the light that leads
purities death the deed
True love that succeeds
salvation guaranteed
Life purpose decreed.

and love abides
for life's freedom,
The fullness of Christ
released deep inside you.

Small Makes Big

Step by step
the mountain top
Footfall by footfall
the revolving treadmill
Drip by drip
the deepening chasm
Seed by seed
the spreading forest
Second by second
disappearing years
barb by barb
mind piercing cuts
Not enough by not enough
tentacles of addiction
Lie by lie
snaking self deception
Taste by taste
a tantalising smorgasbord,
Nail by nail
a complete restoration,
Smile by smile
a living relationship,

Twist by twist
the turns of life
Care by care
feeling deepening love
Space by space
the freezing emptiness
Word by word
the unfolding story
Up by down
the corkscrew rollercoaster
Beat by beat
the rhythm of hearts
choice by choice
the new risk
Molecule by molecule
the big, the wonderful truths.

Mist

Mist swallowed
old soldier trees
lean tiredly against
peeled teeth missing fences,
Silently the grey stalks
across overgrown
weed invaded grass
creeping around the gaunt
black ribbed house,
climbing rotting walls
sliding through shattered windows
seeking collapsing dreams,
just one hope to shore
up life.

derelict loneliness
is all the mist
fingers find.

Gorilla Glass

Transparent and hidden
I reach out
and fingers touch
cold and hard
like a mime artist
on the glass box
surrounding me,
unbreakable,
trapped
yet constantly seen
by others around,
The crystal cage
travels life
with me,
and knowing glances
penetrate the walls,
live human dissection
gilded bird man
wings clipped
lost behind
invisible barriers,
People walk by
smiles and reference
they stop talking
lean to each other,
and my mind shatters
fixating on what they
could have been saying,
cracked and damaged identity
within ever-strong
gorilla glass.

Spring Snow

Hesitating buds peek life colour
into a faltering winter’s grasp
spiralling glimpses of white and pink hues,
heralding Spring with
expanding frills of silk softness,
layered branches bow cloud covered,
petals
drop
delicately
drifts cover pathways
coat new-green grass in the
false winter memories
of snow flakes.

Bees and tourists with cameras
buzz close to the trees,
stamens and smiles are captured,
Spring’s blossom warmth
is scattered by bikes, runners,
walkers and winds,
waking the world
to new life.

Rainbow Poem - Taste Blue

Crisp spring blue water
fresh bubbles down throat,
Bubble gum ice cream
blue sugar smoothness on tongue,
dark blueberries popping
flavouring my cereal,
blue smartie crunch
chocolate melt with candy fragments,
blue popsicle on stick
I grin stained teeth to the sun,
blue ocean sparkling
in the sun seared distance,
my skin can taste
the coolness,
blues music stealing
across the room,
slowly eating my heart
with longing,
blue grapes antioxidant rich
sweet mouth burst,
lick some blue sky
to savour sunshine adventures,
the smell of old feet
blue cheese, nature’s mould
my taste buds - not sold!
Prompt
What would happen if we could taste a colour?

Autumn

Autumn cries
falling tears,
soft comfort
for hardening ground,
Autumn sheds
colourful clothes
laying them gently
on accepting soil,
Autumn sings
a summer lament
of wind whistles
through half naked trees,
Autumn plays with
avid admirers
jumping through leaf piles,
Autumn shivers
sensing the on-massing
change within
black winter clouds

and the last leaf falls.

Prompt
