Media Moments: Question, reflect, connect

In Charge of the World

If I were in charge of the world
fitness would be eating ice cream
guns would melt away
and global warming would be global just right.

If I were in charge of the world
old age would mean thirty year old bodies
young age would have more common sense
and middle age would eat more ice cream.

If I were in charge of the world
politicians would turn green if they lie
everyone would stop to enjoy beautiful moments
and digital devices would stop when overused.

If I were in charge of the world
Almond chocolate would be a fruit
A hug would last for twenty seconds
And a person who sometimes left the toilet seat up
Who liked to bike and spend time with his grandson
Who sometimes buys too many gadgets
Would still be in charge of the world.

Starting Thoughts: How would us being in charge of the world make it a different and better place? Can you place some humour into this form of poetry as well? What will make your version of this poem unique?

In Charge of the World Poetry writing for children

I Stand

I stand
in a crowd
they blur
in fast forward motion
around me,
my heart slow mo,
Surrounded by life but empty,
Even sound
is muted
dialled down,
time threatens me
a tomorrow enemy
coming insanely quicker
invading here now,
Colours fragment-
are hard to track,
buildings gravity lean
compressing my space,
I crazily condense
shrinking from
false business
flashing toothless signs
muttered sorry
from bumper car drones
hurrying on programmed tracks,
Hopelessness grips, fear tendrils
into my darkening mind.
No hope
No way
No where to go

Pieces
of me splinter
in my soul.
I Stand Alone Crowd poem

A Poem is Not

A poem is not a chair, but it can make you comfortable.
A poem is not a fridge, but it can leave you cold.
A poem is not microwave, but it can heat the soul.
A poem is not a carpet, but it covers life's flaws.
A poem is not a curled cat, but it can make you feel warmth.
A poem is not a LED screen, but it entertains.
A poem is not a door, but it can open alternative thoughts.
A poem is not a pathway, but it can take you to new places.
A poem is not a gate, but it can break holes in barriers.
A poem is not a pavement, but it can crack you up.
A poem is not a flower, but it blooms ideas.
A poem is not fresh-air, but it expands mind-lungs.
A poem is not a walk, but exercises aspirations.
A poem is not a scurrying ant, but embraces curiosity.
A poem is not the dappled sun, but it powers creativity.
A poem is not the universe, but it always expands the reader.
A poem is not a bus-stop, but is an alternative beginning.
WALT: To write a poem to communicate how poetry can be fun to play with words and to entertain people with it.

Success Criteria:
* I have followed the form but shown an ability to vary with intention as needed.
* Place in the poem two thoughts about 'me'.
* Creating not just a random set of lines but using craft.
* I have correctly punctuated with complex sentences with comma/s.
* I have improved vocabulary by utilising a thesaurus.
* I can use and credit Creative Commons images.

Human Nature

Human nature
Scars and beauty,
Seeping decay
Shadows across Earth's face
Living to rescue one moment
Suicide bomb hate the next.

Life suffers:
In death, luxury, instant world,
focus on the me,
Fear, Pain
I am right!

But there was a suffering
A history eternity moment
Connecting
Earth to life,
Us to pure love
Us to the judge,
to hope
to freedom.
Us to God.
A faith to live for,
Beyond the Earth
Beyond an expanding universe
Beyond everyday, today and tomorrow.

Live this life
Love the rescue
of your soul.
