Media Moments: Question, reflect, connect

The Urge

Do you ever...
one moment
Sitting at home,
next
just wanting to
Leave?
Get out, find space,
seek different, explore new!
Seconds later
Decision made despite
Dark winter night outside,
Destination decided.

Heat pump off,
Keys in pocket
Lights flicked,
Darkness descends inside
as you remote flick
the garage door,
It clatters upwards
as you don jacket
Bike helmet and gloves,
set LED lights to
"Don't hit me” flicker
and fasten them to front and back
of carbon framed track hunter,
Pushing out
Sneak quick under the descending
Metal sectioned door,
first metres with flashing lights
illuminating dark driveway
to neon pale street,
hitting curb street drain
onto road bordered
by shadow naked maples,
cycling the adventure,
hanging hard on street corners
weaving back streets and cones,
cold sneaking wind tips
stroking cheeks
checking out coat zips,
Almost
feeling faster than cars
as their lights creep
up beside me,
and then wide berth pass
my peddling
side-to-side shadow,
the tarmac
my playground
my heart pound.

Riding the night lights
To the mall
- fried dumplings and new shoes!

The Seed

I hold tight
arms by side
clenched fists
white knuckles.

The seeds
enclosed in my hands
potential of abundant life
Possibilities of change,
flickers of future,
I stand in
turbulent clouds swirl
searing sun,
Soft seeking snow,
seasons of temperature,
Time could just roll
by speeding to death,
What would be the point?

What is the risk?
Can I risk?
Can I break fear?

I call to the Lord
Seed giver
soul lover,
"Take my all
Who I am
is only made
Real and true
in You,
Lord of life
let this step
be seeking you
knowing Your lifetime’s
divine appointments,
I love you Lord,
It can only be You"

Stepping from the path
Finding the moment of
feet grounded in the soil
my hand opening
Opening my palm,
And on creases
Of my life lines
seeds lie ready
To be thrown
the fields are ready
To grow and multiply
a harmony harvest.
and I throw
to sow.
The treasure
of the world
hope, dreams,
waits in our ready
hands,
Is made alive
As we scatter
love moments
Love seeds
Love's heart power
from the Lord.

Prompt
The seeds we have to sow lie ready in our hand. From the parable of the sower. Are you ready to find divine moments in your week?
Sharing your faith by sowing seed poetry, spoken word

Plays of Life

How we play
Ignoring questions
ignoring the gaps
Turning on
Noise and screens,
For our focus -
Odds on favorite -
is Pleasure.

Power, position, possessions
The plays of life
Days of life
Chasing the cursed dream
we catch it, rich cream
temporary fulfilment,
and it dries
ashes in the mouth,
Death a taste away,
Chasing the cash crop
why would I stop?
Spinning into nothing
is what I am avoiding,
The void always
apparent beneath my feet,
Running fast enough
so the vortex
will not suck me in
for I have made myself God.

If I died tomorrow,
was it all just random...
Or will I meet Jesus?

Starting Thoughts: We chase stuff! Not quite like a dog chasing a car but we tend to focus on money, status, pleasure, sex, work and in the end I wonder what we have achieved. Christians are not immune either, when we take our focus of God and relationship with him we can be running to catch-up with our image of God.

Spoken Word Poem on what we put our time into to achieve fame or success

Living Memory

The sculpture was formed
Over fifteen years
Searing sun
Dust clogging nostrils
Bitter Spain winters
Snow cold fingers
An artist's hand
of paper sketches
turned into stone,
From an apartment
packed layered living
year by year
he travelled to the hills
and the house emerged
laboured into
existence,
beams bracing strong,
walls thickly blocked
staircase triumphantly leading
to second floor bedrooms
now holding memories of family,
And a BBQ shed for a king.

And spinning prior in time
Another artist
Who spun galaxies
wove atom by atom
an earth creation,
knowing us
Before we do,
This designer, God
had readied His
miracle
for the house builder.

Before doctors, family, friends
God knew,
Before the house creation
was the God who
holds all things together,
And then the builder
was gripped in cancer’s claws
A brain strangling mass
Oppression impending
Operation preparing,
Percentage chances murmured,
In desperation's hope
a whisper of insistence
from a loving wife,
trying in faith
to build trust
to ask God
for something.

And man not yet a builder
travelled a journey of faith
the cave of Lourdes bound
and the Jesus
who touched blind to sight,
lame to walking, diseased to wholeness
the Carpenter of reconstructing life
the Relationship builder
as Son of God, Son of Man
Turned the Miracle,
Not to the surprise
of the doctors
Who asked, "Where
have you been?"
Before
revealing the change.
Cancer gone!
No operation needed.

Thirty five years older
the house now
with inbuilt stature,
celebrating life
a daughter's marriage
a families journey,
Friends and family from
Spain, New Zealand
and many other nations
gathered to enjoy this life.

And the reminder
of all these memories
love in pain
struggles and tears
hopes and fears,
is embedded in the stone
a sculpture to remind
us all of the glory of God.

Starting Thoughts:
This spoken-word poem comes from a family wedding that we attended in Spain. The father of the bride had this encounter of miraculous healing from a his own personal history of a place of non- belief. As he built his new home on the hills over fifteen years, he crafted a statue celebrating the Cave of Lourdes and placed it over the doorway to remind himself of the miracle that had happened. A great story to hear!

Images Flow

Made in
Created in
Purposed in
the image of God,

You are connected to God
hearing what he hears,
He feels, you feel,
he breathes, you breathe,
belonging to your Lord,

To you, in you, From you,
His love, power, heartbeat
calls deep to deep,
intertwining spirit to spirit,
and the colours swim
Swirling to life in you
creating the story
God's words, your thoughts
flowing infusing rhythms
telling of the kingdom
Stories and journeys,
Loves cascade,
Saturating hues
streaming to a world that
needs a master's peace.

Deep Pain

In the saturated Pain
grappling bone deep
from skin cuts
To words slicing
into my brain,
I drown in the silent
screams of my soul,
Apathy drifts
strangling
hopes and possibilities,
I hear of an amazing love
and it shines,
I hear Jesus is good, so good
I somehow know
a Soul calling,
but it still seems
a nightmare reach away,
an impossible journey,
how could I start
to believe,
in a room
Of those who have found
this real love,
How could it be for me?
Hard and dark
stark chalk outlines of my body
rising from the concrete floor.
I am living dead.
Jesus
Can I try you?
Yet I know that's not enough
Jesus
Can I believe?
Can I dare?
Can I trust?
To give you the whole
Of me.

In me...
Jesus.

I give my dark
I give my confusion,
My heart
My despair
My hopes
asking for Your breath
to turn my heart,
Towards Jesus
Towards the Way, Truth, Life
Towards the new,
Thanking for total forgiveness
Thanking for amazing love,
I am free to be me
Free to give.

A Near Car Park

A open car park
dive in and align
Suddenly realising that
out of fifty parks,
Six cars
Have nestled themselves by
each other,
The rest of
white tooth gaps on tarmac
Vacant,
our cars are friends
establishing relationships,
happily jostling car doors
sharing dents and dirt.

We so
follow each other,
queues of togetherness;
boasting pairs in
line for Terror theme park ride,
waiting to see if you are
standing on toes
tall enough to enter,
sitting in rows of seats
hardly choosing the first
three rows, especially
favouring back rows,
And if someone tries too
Jump the queue,
break the silence,
We can be programmed
to stand on a bell
and not even know why.

And life
being the way it is,
“we like sheep gone astray”
pops into my head…

Silent without thinking
gliding into carparks,
in shameful past
many mute, stunned
walked into gas chambers
died together
gassed in prison boxes
creeping from advertisement noise,
avalanches of media
images of sexual freedom
silent epidemics of porn
on computers,
penetrating thoughts of
it is about me, what I take
is OK, cousin sex play,
child play, drunk power,
and raw shame wraps
throats into more silence,
and no one talks with
61% of teens learning
about sex from the Internet.
No wonder
we suffer
whirlpools of inaccuracy, indifference
incest, ingrained secrecy,
stored death,
Creeping electron feet
Assault and battery
screens in our houses,

Strangers we've
never seen, met, known
invited to your home,
How, in the cesspool,
can we swim
without swallowing?

Sleeper Awake!

We can only
turn to the one
who is living water,
Changing the landscape
of our lives,
Who loves deep, cleanses deep,
Forgives deep, changes deep,
reveals and sets free.

Look Up

Look up
see soaring alps
snow capped mountains moving
waving as the bridegroom
comes close,
His spirit rolling
revival ahead
of His steps,
See what he carries
a supernatural picnic feast
abundance from heaven's stores,
and He invites
the crowds, the churches
the people,
To come and be held
gathered in His love,
united in His healing
people of the land
first, old and new
past and present
Reconciled
to sit, relax
to enjoy his bounty,
His flavour,
His favour, His compassion
draw in, gather in,
the party in the park
Pray in, pray in,
belief in his provision,
deepened in his love,
and he strikes
the ground
living water
flows, bubbles out,

And the crowds
dance on rivers
living streams
in their hearts,
On their lips,
one in the same river
braided life spreading
greening the Canterbury plains,
the house of Lord
Comes,
Invite one and all,
Run
Hearts to the house,
shout to the Lord
Your call, your breath
Exalt the one
Who holds futures
Who loves you,
city of Christ.

And then
in awe
we pause,
Our heart's pounding
watching the breath
Of our lungs rise
intermingling
We raise outstretched arms
Our hands in knowing,
here in this time,
One breath
anointed
One God, one spirit
But coloured in

The depth of who we are
In Him.
The vapour rises
Released, Spreading
Bourne on the
jet streams of the Spirit
tracking across the Earth
Flowing free
a source of praise
Touching parched lips
With joy
from Christchurch
ends of the Earth.

Praise to the one,
Praise of the Earth,
Extol the Lamb of God.

Click Bait

In the silent
hideouts,
lonely rooms,
tree-huts
sheds,
classrooms
churches
bus-stops,
a hidden screen,
an epidemic subsumes
minds and personalities,
dolphamine chemicals
rewriting brains
pushing intimacy away
into shame addictions
quick masturbations...

"Not a shame,”
pixel porn whispers,
"freedom for
women's bodies to
do what they want",
and porn fuelled
sex trade
statistics
are blanked away,
pixel pain grows
stroking soft fingers
on the flesh
of your mind.
Steal a life
Steal a slave
trafficked porn sex.

A click away
from another victim
from a child kidnapped,
sex slaves
with seven years
death expectancy
exploited flesh
corrupted innocence.

Build a coliseum
fill it with the crowds
pay per view
and throw the
girls to the lions,
you scream for more
your thumb points down
and ad rates tick up.

So...
Why do you click
for death?
Her's quicker
your's slower.

Rainbow Poem - Taste Blue

Crisp spring blue water
fresh bubbles down throat,
Bubble gum ice cream
blue sugar smoothness on tongue,
dark blueberries popping
flavouring my cereal,
blue smartie crunch
chocolate melt with candy fragments,
blue popsicle on stick
I grin stained teeth to the sun,
blue ocean sparkling
in the sun seared distance,
my skin can taste
the coolness,
blues music stealing
across the room,
slowly eating my heart
with longing,
blue grapes antioxidant rich
sweet mouth burst,
lick some blue sky
to savour sunshine adventures,
the smell of old feet
blue cheese, nature’s mould
my taste buds - not sold!

Heart in Hands

Run your hands
through your hair,
every one counted,
For He knows
You intimately,
His heart
beats to yours
in time, beyond time
playing the most
Amazing love life song
just for you,
enveloped in this
empowering cascading
Forever love,
Passionate, innermost deep
Unfathomable yet simple
a Pure unadulterated touch
Dance wild
In His love,
Redeemed,
Set free,
Released
to be.

Louder is Stronger

Because you said whatever
it must be the truth,
beat your honey lips
Drum louder,
so we presume
We are hearing the real,
Media layers
websites, facebook, instagram,
social media poison drips,
lies like flies
coating your lips,
buzzing off the corpses
of facts bloated,
balance not considered
as rhetoric extremes
sell more, get more hits,
death hits
suicide hits
humanity hits,
Reality bits.
A world of lost
in clamour,
Voice barbs in the mind.
Voices
The whispers in your mind
circling your thoughts
choruses streaming from the past
into the secrets of your heart.

Voices
from the whispers of your heart
To your spirit,
Hearing the call
Deep to deep
from God.

Voices
hear the rolling thunder,
know the powerful name
of Jesus,
The One
who claimed
He was the way, life, truth.

Starting Thoughts: In a world full of voices, what are the strongest ones we hear, respond to and influence our life. How much does media, opinion, comments, video influence the decisions we are making? Where do we find and know truth? Can we hear it in the noise of life?

Silence in Homes

Silence in homes,
Behind the screens
and headphones,
parent indifference
mixed with fear
throttling the talk
stifling the possibilities,
A silent generation
trading life, raising blanks,
ready to be imprinted
with porn, sexual experimentation,
sexualised children,
abuse, free love that is expensive
Generation to generation
oppression chains passed down,
deception increasing,
darkness stains minds
into ignorance.

Not us
You cry
Hello?

vast magnificent mountains

hands and minds drip
Poison into vanities
Into homes, into business
Softly stealing
the beauty of sex
the beauty of life
Playing games
of casual hurt,
consuming loneliness.

When will we wake
Speak up,
Open blind eyes

Who will
Hear my heart?
Be not afraid!
My desire is to restore
To reveal and heal,
Cleansing your past
breaking soul ties
giving the answer

Who will be my love?
Be healed
Be different
Be strong
Be open be true
Be held in my arms
Know ear to chest
My heartbeat
Be intimate.

All things made new,
All things redeemed,
All things timed,

In the Heart

Where is the treasure
of your heart?
Even Buried, hidden
it moulds your life,
Even in your sleep,
Dreams reveal what
holds and runs your life
The tosses and turns
Passions and Burns
Straight paths and returns.

Find the place
of your heart
Make room for revival
For you are
Uniquely designed
Uniquely created
Uniquely you
Made for this love,
Find yourself in
Life turned around
Connected to yourself
Connected to acceptance
Connected to the house
The people of God,
You are in the place
This place
Healed, restored
Scars of heart
Scars of mind
Scars of body
gone,
You stand in this place
This house
Knowing, being
forgiveness and restoration
For there is
No name above the
The name of Jesus.
“Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours.
Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.”
Everlasting to Everlasting
This place
Our place
God's place
Heart in this house space
And the roof
is off.

Christchurch Trashed

Christchurch trashed and bruised
Boulders tumbling
The hills poured stone
Stoning
Facades falling
streets and spirits broken,
dust rises
tremours, terrors, confusions
drift to the sky
desperation on hours, days, weeks
that roll like the boulders
and burdens into years,
Can these abused bones
live again?
Stained lives
broken pipes and dreams,
sucking mud and
sand strangles.

But do you see?
the light on the mountains,
Lift up your heads
See
Who is this King?
See the glory
He rolled the stone away
No power, no mountain
no death, no pain,
could hold Him,
No lie, no darkness,
no apathy, no fault
can control Him,
His body bag
and bones
powered to life,
Jesus Christ
the Son rises, Triumph!

Do you hear
the whisper?
The sweet voice
of the Lord,
the life living
on the winds,
turning everything around,
Taste the different,
the new,
Lift your souls
Rise up as eagles
soar in His love,
Speak to your faith,
sing your song,
imagine His eternity
deep to deep,
strongly given
your named white stone
the entrance
to His presence
His banquet,
His purity,
And you stand
Sons and Daughters
of God
Raise your hands,
Exalt your King,
Church of Christ,
Christchurch
In his grace
See Him
Know Him -
Love Him.

In My Soul

In my soul
songs staircase upwards
spiralling through my heart
music moves
leading, lifting
A pathway
to voice my innermost spirit
and I praise,
Worship dimensions
widening renewing minds,
expanding space,
And I wonder, adore, magnify
washed in His grace
knowing extreme love
Knowing amazing new life
knowing the eternal,
the peace of heaven,
And in a breakthrough
of faith
~free flowing~
I extol, extol
Holy, holy is His name,
holiness perfection
a righteousness foundation
surrounds His throne,
and pierced
by a revelation of righteousness
by Christs' rich love,
Glorious splendour dawns
and reigns in who I am,
for Jesus is His name,
Saviour of the Ages
I am God's beauty
My name written
intimate
on His Messiah palm,
I forever live
Here and now
righteousness released.

Circle Cross

Outside

vulnerable,
to workmates,
to friends,
neighbours
inviting intimacy into
God's closer.

Cross to be blessed blessings
Cross to help hope
Cross to heal hurt
Cross to mission ministry
Cross to lift life
Cross to live love.

Am I Big Enough?

Am I big enough
thunders God?
Am I big enough
whispers God?
Am I big enough
loves God?

Come with your burdens
Come from where you are stuck
Come with your sins
Come with what
is held in your dark
no holding back,
Don't hang onto the past
because I hung
the past, present, future.
My love was nailed
came alive with
Jesus my Son,
I finished death
so you can let go,
Let me give joy
for lost years,
Let me give joy
for tears,
Let me give laughter
for stress,
Let me give peace
Let me make
forever holy
your life,
Let me be the beauty
the harmony
in your life,
experience the delights
in my heart.

You are
my new creation
healed and totally
forgiven,
I see you
perfect in my love,
Live with me,
Live from
my promises
my truth
my covernment
my power,
Live from
continual righteousness
cross centered
cross released.

Prompt
Is God BIG enough to love us completely... do we live from this love?
Is your God Big Enough Christian Poem

Newborn Perfection

We thought death desires
Soon shadows
Sin shapes,
Dungeons of
self torture
failure and fright,
striving self improvement
selling regimes and religion
to get ahead
and we struggle
Eyes dulled
Eyes only seeing
the world through the pain,
Through the hate
Through the hurt
Through the have to have
slaves to old nature.

But God
sees us,
Deeply lives
love into us,
Deeply dies
love into us,
For your value
is the price of Jesus,
death to old self
Dead to the old
and we Die with
the heavenly one,
the Son of God
lamb of God
Righteous Giver
grace powers.

Old ways are buried
and we live anew
risen from death's sting
no condemnation
No hate
unpunishable
Given a righteous life
We are beautiful brides
Worthy
Righteous
made perfect
Perfection in Him
Deep roots
Enduring foundations
Pure identity in God
Living from a new peace
abundance of life
Born of God.

Oh we struggle in mind
in body
but the real you is spirit
redeemed
on a journey with the Saviour.

Prompt
A paradox, seeds die - life grows, we die to self to be fully released from slavery to self.
Being born again, God frees us from ourselves

Called to Live

The first call
rang out on
a stony beach,
"I will make you fishers,
catchers, of others”,
And Jesus walked
years of moments,
day and night sharing,
thinking, giving,
living with his hands,
touching crowds and individuals,
from miracles to healing
human mistakes,
growing his friends
developing disciples
Sharing his God
Sharing his life.

The last pass
of his earth journey
climbing the Mount of Olives
Jesus spoke, encouraged
“Go and make disciples”
and He left,
Left the kingdom
on Earth to our
Spirit empowered hands.

What is in your hand?
Carry it
use it,
Step out

Draw one step closer to God
Draw others one step closer
to God's kingdom,
You are it
the purposeful love
Now spirit aware of people
present in your world
praying for your world,
you stand, sit and go places
that no one else does,
and so with intentional relationship,
friendship moments,
Speaking to the gold in others
so they can become precious,
Live life together
conversations, a helping hand
hugs, generous words,
tears and hard times,
an influence.

You are
doing life with the one
you are
an answer
You are love
on feet,
Open your home
open your heart
open your hands.

1 Thessalonians 2:8
