Doorway

The blood
painted on the doorway
Side to side
and lintel above
shaping a
foreshadowed cross
and the Angel of death
passed over,
Echoing into the future
leading to another doorway
another covenant
a different promised hope,
a final rocky hill cross,

Where death would be destroyed
Where fear would be buried
Where the gateways of hell
would crumble,
Where religious restrictions
would be broken,
this cross
a love creation
a love weapon
a forever resurrection change
a universe transformation
this cross
this Christ.

Starting Thoughts:
A connection via doorways from the Passover in Israel to the new covenant that Jesus opened through the cross and the power of his resurrection.

Sliding Doors

Concrete subway entrance
white tiles scattering light
daily journey to known destinations
daily journeys of choice chance,
I rush down the steps
Hitting the base platform
Fight through stainless steel turnstile
Hopefully looking towards
black edged sliding doors
of the crowded train ready -
about to leave,
it seems that time has
collapsed to this moment
Slower yet faster
Frozen yet blurred
Will I make the ride?
Will I step through the sliding doors?
Will I make today’s future?

How will my life change
if I make it?
if I don't?
how does life turn on
the coin flip
the paper, scissors, rocks of life
the slip on the path
the bump in the queue
the look into someone's eye?

the tickets of chance

People
Pause
Purpose

Starting Thoughts:
Life turns on moments of choices we make or don't know have been made for us. Popularised by the Sliding Doors movie, what could happen if something was a few seconds earlier or later?

Questions

Confusion and curiosity questions
Seeking answers because
we do not know,
genuine searching,

Or questions asked
seeking answers we desire,
In the space between answers given
and broken expectations
these questions are often dropped,
avoiding unwanted answers
avoiding uncomfortable truths.

Other questions
fall into emptiness
spoken into void
a black hole of non-return
disappearing into
vastness of life and space
creating a smallness paradox
that travels the mind
in endless unanswered patterns,
spirals where silence echoes silence,
leaving the questions
hanging in the silence...

Like Jesus.

My God, my God, why have you
deserted me?
Why are you so far away?
Won't you listen to my groans
and come to my rescue?
I cry out day and night,
but you don't answer,
and I can never rest.

Because of this silence
because of seeming absence
We have this reality -
Jesus has been there
we have this promise -
Jesus is here with us.

Starting Thoughts:
Questions are amazing doors that can open us to the world around us. We can also use them as weapons to blunt truth or reveal truth. Sometimes there seems to be no answers to our most painful questions.

Slippery Hope

Hope slippery like
Soap on a rope
dissolving
disappearing down
the sucking plug hole,
I summon hope
but it slips away into
thin darkness,
I pull Hope up
Clinging to it
and it circles
the drain again
disappearing tendrils of me
self immolation drip by drip
despair that focuses on despair
Pain that focuses on pain.

From distress depths
deep in the sewer
I look up, seeing

a descending anchor of hope
fastened to heaven's mercy seat
Strong in God’s love
Secure in the cornerstone
Fastened to the rock

This anchor
emerges through the
bleak suffocation above
Shining like a star
A beacon I can choose
A saviour I can choose,

Now within me
Hope rising
Heart burning
on the inside
I discover
Hope cannot be a feeling
it is a person,
Anticipation in the blackness
Passion igniting
as I see this person, Jesus
the sure hope
Foundation of faith
Jesus the hope of Glory
Jesus glories’ hope in us.

I stand on
the anchor
secured, home
Darkness surrounds
but somehow I’m
in a different place
Same time
Different place -
Hope full.

Starting Thoughts: How solid is hope? If our future hope relies on money or jobs or even others will we always have a trustworthy hope? Is it possible that only God can be the sustainer of hope?

Spoken word poem on where we find hope.

Heartbeat Questions

From unnatural darkness
in the midst of loss and grief
from hell's silence came a heartbeat
light shattered dark into new belief

Born again in resurrection
Jesus simply stepped through the grave
and walked in surrounding gardens
the risen Saviour alive to save

In a whisper of salvation
Christ approached Mary near the tomb
Eyes not seeing her saviour
His words forever changed her gloom.

In the doubts of disciples meeting
In the fear and in the pain
Jesus appeared to show all
God’s kingdom would now reign.

From unnatural darkness
in a world of hurt and questions
Jesus now also asks us
can my power bring new directions?

Starting Thoughts: Simple moments in a garden against a backdrop of the powerful resurrection. Often we don't hear God's voice or recognise him in our life as we are focused on grief, pain, expectations of what God should be doing or can't do - and then He meets us!

Easter- Jesus risen appears to Mary, to the disciples

Between

Standing the darkness
Caught in between
Sacrifice and victory
Living now in the unseen.

Knowing grief - brokenness
Loss and confusion
Saturday’s waiting time
Awareness of being human.

Resurrection Sunday ahead
Joy and celebration
Right now stalled life
Hope seems just illusion.

Trapped in cloying dark
Time spinning to atrophy
Entangled dusk, joyful sunrise
My place of reality.

Jesus survived the same
Three Days of hell’s extremes
Then resurrection changed the game
Death to life, He redeems!

Starting Thoughts: The time between Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday seems to ebb in flow a different reality that seems closer to human life. A mix of grief and wonderment, pain and celebration, waiting and ready to move on.

A poem reminding of us of the important moment between Good Friday and resurrection Sunday

Once for All

Histories appointed time
Witnesses in groups
scattered around the hill,
Centurions guarding
clutching weapons and discipline
Eyes watching cross nailed body
One of Rome’s three erected punishments,
Disciples grief clustered
mother, brother, friends, disciples
broken hopes pierced with
shards of possibilities,
strangers there just to watch
nervous after earthquakes
had thrown all to ground
and blackness cloaked the sun,
Mockers stood angrily close
Pointing fingers and bitter tongues,
Serpents in the distance
Priests and Pharisees
politicians and Sadducees
manipulators and blamers
Covering hypocrisy
Pulling the strings of greed
and charlatan history
to the skull shaped hill,
Watching in awe and dread
the risen dead
holy people from tombs
laughing and
walking Jerusalem’s streets.

And the waiting
the waiting
Starts
the waiting
the waiting...

For some this time
Pauses life
Suspends talking, hugging, futures,
For others
relief and business as usual,
For others
covering the lies
coating the death dealing
in white paint
lime wash on the bodies.

Three days journey
emotions and thoughts
questions and statements,
And Earth shifted again
And Jesus simply walked
from death’s depths,
The power to raise from
one death
once for all
One death
was risen
with the power
to bring life
eternally, always, without fail
for all.

Starting Thoughts: At the dividing time in history - a story, a fable, a truth? Jesus who walked Earth, was crucified and rose from the dead at Easter. For you, once and for all.

Grace Identity

For your struggles
for your loss
for the questions
for the put downs
for the pain
for the striving
for the business
is the way, truth, life - Jesus
Before creation started
Before voids filled with matter
Before life was formed
Before sin darkened relationships
God’s answer was chosen
Jesus
- the precious son
- the Grace gift
Christ
- glories unfolding plan
- glories forever solution
Streaming through time’s generations
God’s answer once and for all
won us at the Cross of love.

Now
under the power of Christ
with the same love God has for Jesus
we are eternally loved
we are forever sealed
we are in glorious grace
our old ways totally nailed
to the same death cross,
abundant provision
overflowing life
kingdom authority
perfectly holy and complete
for all time
powered by His faith in me
all through the same cross,

Now
We say no to ungodliness
no to worldly passions
Yes to His Grace
Being holy for God because
we are holy
Being love for God
because we are God’s love
We are who God says we are.

Bible Verses: Titus 2:11-12, Galatians 2:20
Starting Thoughts: The answer, once and for all time, has been the glorious power in the resurrection of Christ after becoming the grace gift of God as the cross.

Grace and Identity in Jesus Christian spoken word poetry

Abundant

Created to be connected
to the Living God
centered through the cross,
such a richness
deep in God’s love
death by sin crossed off
forever
forgiven once for all
overwhelmed by His grace
a new world
a new covenant
a new promise
a new kingdom
a daily communion.

And now
cross changed
I believe,
Rebirth in Jesus
Holy Spirit flooded,
everything in abundance
from life’s source
beyond expectation
releasing the River
within me,
Life full and overflowing
Cascading out from my
expanded heart
Touching, awakening
others around
blessing people
my life streaming
God’s deep, deep love.

Bible Verses: John 10:10
Starting Thoughts: The cross covenant of love brings us to a new identity, released to be fully us as we realise the depth of God's favour and love from the river of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

Servant

I want the power
the Chance to do
life my way,
Yet no matter
how high I climb
how strong I feel
how much I manipulate controls
how much I persuade,
it is all really ashes
dust in the mouth-
the taste of death.

Jesus
knelt in the dirt
took the cloth
and washed tired feet
the dirt of his disciples
friends he was growing
to become the new church,
dust to dust
the taste of death cleansed
waterfalled by the living water.

And Jesus
who left the high dimensions
became a vulnerable human,
walked through the pains
the jeers, the celebrations
the laughter, the serving of others
walked, stumbled
His cross too heavy to bear,
could have in an instant
chosen from heaven’s power
release from His choice,
but allowed iron nails
to be driven into His destiny,
raised cross high
on the hill of dusty rock
The servant King
willing to encounter the ashes-
the taste of destruction.

And the mouth
of hell Swelled
consumed purity
in ashes of death,
And swallowed
the body of Christ,
The annihilation of God’s promise
And yelled, “Death”
Thunder crashed
earthquakes split,
the holy temple curtain
ripped top to bottom,
And Hell and earth
spun in the dark
with no idea
of the coming power.

Three days, nights
Russian roulette
barrel in the mouth
the Chamber spinning
with Death.

And with dawn’s
Sunshine softness,
with birds and awakening
with breakfast and dreams finished
Another earthquake rumbled,
angels appeared
fearful guards stumbled back
from a heavy rolling tomb stone
and Jesus simply rose
the bread of life rose,
the rose of Sharon bloomed,
the servant king was risen, alive
and Jesus simply walked out
into history and future
into million of lives,
Jesus simply talked
close times with friends
Jesus walked
on roads beside disciples
who didn’t recognize him,
Jesus walked life
into a world of death
bringing heaven down,
Jesus called a church
to shake off the dust
to carry love and honor
to enjoy living with hope
to go and make disciples.

Starting Thoughts: Jesus in His death and resurrection has brought heaven to earth, shown the nature of Servant King, power in a humble human form.

Spoken Word Poem on the resurrection of the Servant King Jesus

Boundaries

Only through
the hardness of decision
the sweat of blood tears
the alien aloneness
in contrast to a garden’s lushness,
Only through
Setting his face
to walk, carry, suffer,
speak, encounter, die,
Only through Christ’s choice
did the boundary of the cross
linking matter to heaven
break the power
of sin and death
tearing the curtain
the barrier
between celestial and earth,
Tearing Father, Son and Spirit
Breaking resistant hearts
Breaking the chains
Breaking the masks,
Saturating love, release and potential
to the corners
of our core, of who we are.

And now
in our choices
we set new Boundaries
Stopping unhealthy risk
Bringing security to freedom,
Always safe in the Saviour,
Living out true understanding
Telling others who we are,
We grow from love
From passion
From desires to connect
Allowing others to see us
Echoing God’s love,
Allowing His reckless
overwhelming love,
to richly pour
through us
into the world beyond.

Starting Thoughts: Setting boundaries in relationships, on self, on others are an important part of life. They give security, decreasing fears, enhance communication. Why do we so often fold or keep quiet?

Embedded Love

The Big Bang
The cataclysmic moment where
time, material, state started,
and with these
amazing energies
God begins relationship
With humankind
Generations
With you, us
Motivated by
love infused DNA
God models true humanity
Models change
models deep-heart talk,
Models complexity
and simplicity,
How in the dark
light is born,
how in old age, death, pain, evil
life moves on, grows, laughs, opens,
That is why God
First sent people,
prophets, leaders
the ordinary
to tell God's real story,
many kicked, beaten, killed
laughed at, scorned, excused,
and time revolved
eras and civilisations
rose and passed
threaded through with
questions of the why,
for God desires relationship
and let history run
in all its quality of decisions.

Finally,
embedded in
time’s crossroad,
God sent
the last One
the Close One
Chosen One
the personhood of God
God skinned
the Only Son
the last sent,
the one to
show true love and
be Worthy of love
the one who would stand
innocent, pure
Beyond time
to restore
to Take the judgement
of all sin,
Crucified as us
to bring Earth's
Past, present, future
through grace
into love relationship with God.

And the resurrection power
Spoke
A new commandment
that you love
one another, as yourself
As God deeply loves you,
walk in forgiveness
grace and honour
into your life
child, daughter, son of God
release the prophetic treasure
breathe words of gold
extraordinary people
telling God's story
releasing God's spirit
releasing his call.

How God

Past Future Fears

Every evil spirit
calls out,
Pulling, teasing the
tenuous fear threads
into willing and unwilling
fertile minds,
multiplying the chaos
with distracting crowd noise
media, screens, speakers
hovering, thrusting, spiralling
connecting the bleak web
Deceit deforms the humane
collapsing hope
suffocating reason,
sometimes just silence
becomes the lies
and the future becomes
the past.

The sun turned dark
the moon dealt blood,
the earth heaved
in an earthquake storm,

and the lies
tried to be the silence
shutting the word of God
the Jesus truth,
closing life itself.

The sundial
spun three days
of fear chains
over a world
that didn't know it
was waiting.
Chokehold manacles
bruising hopes and dreams.

259,200 seconds
ticked towards eternity
Enough time for
despair, perceived reality,
to vulture circle
the disciples
questions spiralling,
rotting hopes
like the body.

And above, outside
and beyond time,
God spoke
in a power beyond
black holes,
Jesus rose
death died
tombstone rolled
time resumed
and Jesus
danced a million
unfolding stories
into human futures.

Starting Thoughts: Fears crowded in, the sun bled, earthquakes shattered and the Christ event that would change our futures occurred.

Significance

Undying love
an impossibility
a romance novel
a twisted pipe dream,
Can it ever be found?
Even the closest
to perfect human -
died!
Their love, their presence
their essence, personality,
all of them random - gone
just a grass blade
weakened temporary roots
dried to a brown wisp
in nor-wester winds,
flaking, crumbling, scattered,
forever lost.
Endless days
short moments
fleeting seconds.

And love spoke
A powerful presence
on Earth,
The walking, singing, challenging
Love was birthed
in frailty,
in the midst of death
and the universe
was inexorably changed,
This extreme love
healed, restored, invoked,
spoke truth, grace, life,
Transformed society
touched the untouchable
loved those who thought
they could never be treasured,
Said, "You are sons and daughters
of God",
And then evil killed
this ultimate love
tore it down
in the fears of people,
The fears of those in power
The fears of change,
death to a love promise
Just another lie,
death to the completely innocent.

Dying, dying, grave bound
death's chains
binding love in chaos...

And on the third day
Jesus rose
Love rose
Redemption, freedom rose
death could not hold Him
the undying love
Lived on, loved on,
The sacrificed love
searching love
forever eternal love,
the worst possibility
has become
the best truth,
death has become
eternal life
in the power
of God.
Alive in Christ
we stand
Life stories rewritten,
we are
the touch of significance,
We feel
God's heart lovers,
We have become
the royal priesthood.

Starting Thoughts: The temporary nature of life, are we just random? Can we have any significance and therefore hope in life? Can we discover in the worst possibility the best truth?

Can we find significance and hope in a random world? Poetry - Spoken Word

A Change

How can I
See the new kingdom
See this change
That is needed,
Know God for real?
Standing at crossroads
I see my life stretching
down different highways, low-ways
All directions are somehow me
but only one
Seems fully real,
fully life giving
fully me,
Yet shadows
still dance before my eyes.

Something needs to happen
in me, from me
first, before I take
the next step,
who will I serve
self, God, what others think,
money, humanity's poisons?
I'm Called to home
to repentance,
turning from owning my life
Giving my hopes and dreams
to Jesus,
To see God's glory by
Being changed
from glory to glory,
losing the stuff
strangling my secret heart
That holds me back.

Overwhelming...

Standing at the cross,
Road to being saved,
just a step forward;
I've got to serve somebody,

Christ is the beginning.

Stones Throw

As Jesus rode
towards the city,
Towards a future
really only known by Him,
the noise...
the celebration crowd
lining the streets
of Jerusalem
palm leaves waving, shouting
The embarrassed Pharisees' hate
threaded the tumult,
But the crowd
was lost to them
in this moment;
for a change,
in this time's fragment,
people had touched
the truth.

"Even the stones
will cry out."

Hide the cross
of Easter,
Smother it in chocolate
and hopping bunnies,
drown out thought,
hide it in holiday events,
Laugh to make it irrelevant.

And in alternate reality
the crowd transformed
"Stone Him
Crucify, crucify
kill Him on that cross"
erected on stone,
Nailed with our sins
Beaten with
the virus
of our human chaos,
bury Him
in our sins,
Bury Him
deeper in stone.

"Even the stones
will cry out."

"Even the stones
will cry out"
Shouting of God's glory
Shouting resurrection power
and the stone rolls aside,
Revealing
Jesus, risen
Jesus, death breaker
The king of love
the beautiful holy lamb.

Now the Rock
of salvation
has restored me to
Total freedom
Total innocence,
Past, present, future
a completed regenerated
beautiful creation,
new born life,
I know God,
my fresh Spirit
flowing living rivers,
transformed forever from
eternity established within,
My soul released
My gifts released.

Christian SPoken Word Poem Easter, Palm Sunday

Your Cost

Take your life
expense
excellence, cost, love
fear, success
Break it;
Kneel
and pour the oil,
Anoint the feet
of Jesus,
Tender, intimate,
without a care
for those around,
devoted in passion
massage deep,
devoted
stay in that place
remain close,
wipe the dust,
soften His calluses,
in veins see his blood beat;
your heart worships
deep calls to deep,
fearless cost
Connected in communion,
Can you be closer?
Yes! taking your long hair
You twist the strands slightly
and wipe Christ's feet...
worship moment,
timeless drift.

How can these seconds
Be as powerful
as a hug,
as exciting
as first love,
as secure
as holding hands,
as wrapped in a
Heartbeat?

Finished
but not wanting to be,
you stand;
He smiles,
Eyes sparked in love,
And you enjoy... fully alive.

Luke 7: 36-50

Light Spark

Incredible moment,
beginning of life
phenomenon
as sperm meets egg
A flash of light...
Just a zinc reaction?

Another clue, like:
A million stars flung,
Sun caressed cheek,
Seed seeking, launching from darkness,
Flower petals unfolding,
following sun-rays,
Sunbeams fracturing into rainbows,
Sunrises softly wiping night,
Moonlight, pale mirror of greater source,
Reflections of light-rays enabling sight,
colours a thousand retina explosions.

All random?

In light
the invisible becomes visible,
star lead wanderers
discover the new born King,
sons, daughters of light...
you will not walk in darkness.

His spark
our faith,
Beacon of hope,
Creator, Sustainer, Light of the World.
Light Christian Poem

Cross Connection

At the cross
judgement and mercy
meet victorious,
Incredible thoughts...
universe holding,
star holding
powers
from the breath...
the words of God.

And I am chosen
deep in His love,
Embraced in His desire
to bring me home,
Welcoming me close
to his heart
Celebrating in me
the resurrection
pain of the cross,
in response
I kneel.

I so need this vertical
intersection of my life
allowing God’s love
to power my surrender.

Connected to His pulse
I stand,
Forgiven and free,
Resting in His peace
Ready on my feet,
Today choosing again
The one who simply says,
"I am
The Way
The Truth
The Life"
Cross Connection Christian Poem

Moment Crossed

In that moment
As I awaken
to the world around
to my rhythmic beating heart
to my pain and hopes,
I look upwards
towards a hill of three crosses,
Heart drawn closer
I walk towards.

I stand alone
yet somehow embraced
before Christ,
Seeing his life pain
but knowing the amazing power,
the world-changing resurrection
that will history-make.

"I love you this much,"
say his outstretched arms
"I'd rather die than live without you!"

I awaken
from this reality dream,
Knowing He is worth,
My love
My surrender
My worship.
