Media Moments: Question, reflect, connect

Jared and Jessica

Can’t help falling in love
with an eye fiesta
of variegated sea blues to green lawn
From Aqua bay to
Green shades native forest
Tui notes cascade above
white water stream,
Grey clouds lace mountain ridges
releasing showers onto
the dress up colours of wedding guests
and umbrellas fetched from cars.

Then a pause in the rainy weather
Moisture trickles joy in eyes
of the bow tie groom
as the bride glides on father’s arm
down the grassy isle,
Ceremony words
Lace the air
Weaving God’s life
Prayer and communion
Laughter with love
Friends and family in tune
with the outdoor celebration,
A stillness descends
wind pauses holding breath
and sun warms our backs
Rings with pledges and loyalty
exchanged
Jared and Jessica
Heart and song
Can’t help falling in love
with you

No Wind Kite

Dusk stole
across the park grass
Thinning behind winter tree branches
yellow orange striped candy colours
sunset lowering on the horizon,
still and crisp air
resting on park and playground
Friend’s children climbing rope
tetrahedron
Shouts to Dad
This is a spaceship, a mountain
a dream...

As we clambered down
hit the swing for one last time,
For the fifteenth repeat
I was asked, “Can we fly the kite?”
I glanced to the zipped backpack
Leaning against park picnic bench
With a rainbow skin and spars
poking from the top.

I pointed out the lack of wind
No moving branches
no twitch of twigs
Distracted them with flying science
about helicopters and blades
Birds and wings
Even pointed out starlings perched
dark blobs in naked branches,
And then suddenly
I realised
if the children run
dragging the kite to height - win, win
The kite will fly - sort of
                         - sort of fun
The boys will become more tired...

How often do we think
the wind is not there?

Run with the kite!

Starting Thoughts:
Flying (or not) a kite with the grandchildren leads to thinking about how we encounter the Holy Spirit.

Life's Extremes

Sad salt water tears
blues from a Fish tanked death,
Sunshine feet running enjoyment
flying kite swooping in windy sky,
Grumpy red thin lips
favourite takeaway shop closed,
Lazy warm sunlight Sunday
Window seat couch potato reading;
Life’s Extremes.

Starting Thoughts:
A bit of fun with Bitmoji's and Feelings.

My Thoughts

Today, again
I thought intricately
about you
You are
accepted
in every way,
Any moment, any time,
every time,
Created
in my image,
your spirit
entwined with my
Holy Spirit
Your dreams
are held
in my embrace
I am
Always in a good mood
with you
Hugs and laughter...
Let’s live.

Starting Thoughts: God knows us intimately and intricately, desires and runs towards us, seeks us before we know that He has a passion and love for us. Does God give hugs, laugh and enjoy life - you bet!

Salty Children

Salty Children are classroom spice
important flavour in our life,
Salty Children turn white when shaken,
and enjoy sizzling bacon,
Salty Children like small spaces
but grind their teeth with angry faces,
Salty Children love melting snow
dancing in drifts makes them glow,
They love sunbathing on hot beaches
leaving white outlines
where their body leaches,
Salty Children are often
misunderstood
when people expect
sugar sweet good,
Adding weight is not
their thing
Zest and zing
is what they bring.
WALT: to write a strong poem in the style of the "mismatched poetry" form and demonstrating command of some literary devices.

Success criteria:
  • To choose a mismatched noun paired with an adjective or verb.
  • Able to deliberately use and describe two literary devices within my poem.
  • Create a list of mismatched phrases and choose the best 6-8
  • Able to craft the phrases together and break lines in well thought out places,
  • Be able to publish the poem with illustrations that follow creative commons zero guidelines.

I used the literacy devices of metaphors, alliteration, repetition and finished with simple rhyme to emphasise my final point.

Yawn

A day behind
this time of now
tired from work
I stretch out
eyes vacant
heavy with tarmac,
I yawn
and sprain my jaw.

Starting Thoughts:
Just a fun thought as I yawned.
