Step by step
the mountain top
Footfall by footfall
the revolving treadmill
Drip by drip
the deepening chasm
Seed by seed
the spreading forest
Second by second
disappearing years
barb by barb
mind piercing cuts
Not enough by not enough
tentacles of addiction
Lie by lie
snaking self deception
Taste by taste
a tantalising smorgasbord,
Nail by nail
a complete restoration,
Smile by smile
a living relationship,

Twist by twist
the turns of life
Care by care
feeling deepening love
Space by space
the freezing emptiness
Word by word
the unfolding story
Up by down
the corkscrew rollercoaster
Beat by beat
the rhythm of hearts
choice by choice
the new risk
Molecule by molecule
the big, the wonderful truths.

Small
Unseen
The universe of space
Between molecules
objects, life that seems solid
both living and soulless-
Same,
Electrons spinning
Yet when combined
could be walking, running spirits
or standing-tall tree alive
or floating cloud, snow laced mountain,
Myriad combinations
miracles of reality,
But an existence infested
with pain, poison,
Coexisting alongside passion, love;
Questions sometimes appear
in the hungry void,
between quark and laughter,
What are we?
How do we exist? Why?

Makes you wonder…
or not.
